Getting here & away
Heidelberg is centrally located in Germany (and Europe in
general) and is easily reached by car, train, or plane. The
main conference sites are all located in Heidelberg's city
centre.
by plane:
1 - Frankfurt
International Airport is the closest (80 km) and most
convenient airport for Heidelberg. (check their website s.v.
"getting to/from" for travel details and schedules)
The Lufthansa Bus to Heidelberg leaves
from Terminal 1 outside Halle B (Hall B), on the "arrivals"
level. It leaves approximately once an hour, depending on
the time of day, seven days a week between 07:00 and 23:00,
at a price of €19.00 one way and arrives in Heidelberg at
the Crowne Plaza Hotel Passage, Kurfürstenanlage 1-3. You
do not need to be a Lufthansa passenger in order to use this
service.
An Airport Shuttle Service (door-to-door)
is the most convenient way to get to Heidelberg. You will
be picked up at the "Treffpunkt" or Meeting Point
in either Terminal 1 (Arrivals Hall B) or Terminal 2 (between
exits D and E) and taken right to your hotel. Book 2-3 days
in advance and be sure to let them know your flight number,
arrival terminal and place of departure. Prices range from
€29.00 to €35.00.

There are two train stations at Frankfurt Airport:
the long-distance and the regional train stations. Please
check AIRail connections from the airport to Heidelberg. You
may need to switch trains at the Frankfurt main station or
Mannheim. The standard fare is € 13.50 to 21.10, depending
on your connection.
There are also several car rental companies at the
airport. Driving takes a little over an hour to/from
Heidelberg depending on the time of day. When setting off
from the Airport parking facilities or the terminal forecourts
follow the blue motorway signs. From the airport, go initially
toward Frankfurt and watch for the signs to Basel and Karlsruhe.
Head south on Autobahn 5, after approximately 30 km, you will
approach Darmstadt ("Darmstädterkreuz"), where the
autobahn div ides into the A5 and A67. You can take either
of these; the A5 is the eastern route and is the more direct
route.
2 - Frankfurt
Hahn/ Hunsrück Airport is a small airport west of Frankfurt
International airport and is the base of the cheap Ryanair
Airline. It is more difficult to reach, however, there are
now shuttle
busses running between Heidelberg and the airport.
by car:
from the Autobahn A5, take the "Heidelberg/ Schwetzingen"
exit (south of the city centre) and head for Heidelberg/Centre.
Please note: There is limited parking at the city centre.
Please use the public bus service during the conference.
by train/public transport:
- Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is located not too far off the city centre - see our City map.
- express services to all countries in Europe by ICE (directly
or via Mannheim), IC/EC or Interregional trains.
- train schedules on Deutsche
Bahn Travel Service
- public transport: one way fare (Hauptbahnhof - City Center) costs €1,90 to be paid cash
to the bus driver (or get a "Ticket 24 plus" for
€6,00 or a three-day ticket for €12,00), get off at "Bismarckplatz".
- for other connections and up-to-date schedules please refer
to the general VRN
bus schedule.
by taxi:
Taxis are available outside the Hauptbahnhof (main train
station) or can be contacted at tel. (06221) 30 20 30. A one-way
ride to the conference site will cost ca. € 10.
